Where to Stay in Lisbon
A quick guide to help you select the best accommodation option for you.
Stay near Príncipe Real or Bairro Alto
If you want to be able to walk between your accommodation and the gay bars and clubs, then make sure that your accommodation is near Lisbon's "gayhood" of Príncipe Real or the Bairro Alto district. You can find out what gay bars, clubs and saunas are in these districts in our Lisbon Gay Guide. The closer your accommodation is to these historic districts then the easier and more convenient it will be for you.
The historic centre of Lisbon is compact and, despite the hills, it is possible to walk almost everywhere. Therefore, you can also stay in the following areas: Avenida da Liberdade, Rossio, Restauradores, Baixa, Chiado, Bica, Santa Catarina, São Bento, Lapa and Campo de Ourique.
If you stay further afield, such as in the area of the Castle of São Jorge, Alfama or uptown in Saldanha or further North, then you will definately need to use some form of transportation as Metro, Bus or Taxis.
Lisbon offers outstanding value-for-money
You can opt to stay in an Hotel, a hostel or rent a flat. In all of these options you will find that your euros will take you a long way. The Late Birds Lisbon is housed in a completely restored, late-18th century building with twelve very comfortable climate-controlled rooms, lounge, beautiful garden and UV-treated swimming pool.
The idea was to create an urban resort for the gay male community located in the heart of Lisbon’s historical center, Bairro Alto and Principe Real, where guests are treated as friends.
The owners designed the Guesthouse to feel welcoming and comfortable, as though you are at home among friends. The decoration combines classical freshness with the contemporary look of Portuguese design. Some memories from the old building and owners' private pieces throughout the common areas provide a friendly atmosphere and a fine gathering place to enjoy socializing with the hosts and other Late Birds guests. The lounge, bar and garden are perfect spaces to celebrate birthdays, gay weddings and special events or just celebrate the warmth of being among friends.
