Guincho Beach - 40mins (40kms) West of Lisbon
In this beautiful beach you'll always have plenty of space, thanks to its large sandy area. From the beach there are amazing views to the Sintra hills and to the westernmost point of the European continent - Cabo da Roca. It can usually be quite windy at this beach, but that's always good news for the windsurfers who have made it one of Europe's most popular spots for the sport.
Praia das Maçãs Beach– 50 mins (43kms) West of Lisbon
Maçãs Beach owes its name to a river that used to run in between apple tree fields, and the fruit used to fall into this river that has its mouth on the beach, delivering several Apples (Maçãs) into the ocean and the sandy area. The sandy area has about 250 meters wide, surrounded by shops, restaurants and bars and handicraft shops.
Praia Grande Beach – 50 mins (43kms) West of Lisbon
This is one of the biggest beaches in Sintra's coast. It's conditions are ideal for surfing and body-boarding. A total of 66 dinosaur 170 million years old footprints have been found in the rocks nearby. A huge-salt water pool overlooks the beach.
Adraga Beach – 50 mins (43kms) West of Lisbon
This white sandy beach is famous for its beautiful landscape. It is protected by cliffs and "decorated" with rocks. Fortunately, it is never as crowded as the other beaches around Sintra, making it the most attractive in the area.
Ericeira Beach - – 50 mins (50kms) West of Lisbon
There are several good beaches around the pretty village of Ericeira. One of the best is Ribeira das Ilhas, considered one of Europe's best surfing spots, having hosted the World Surfing Championships since 1985. In 2008, the APS World Tour arrived for the 6-star Buondi Billabong Pro championship which featured a $135,000 first prize! Visitors will also be able to enjoy the beach's many bars.
Foz do Lizandro Beach – 50 mins (53kms) West of Lisbon
Situated nearby the city of Ericeira, the Foz do Lizandro has a wide sandy area that accompanies, to South the mouth of the river Lizandro. There are usually small ponds formed, that are perfect for children.
