PRICE AND INCLUSIONS
After we pick you up (book online as early as possible!), we will begin the day at Belém. We will rewind 500 years in time to the Age of Discoveries when Portuguese sailors explored the world seeking a maritime route to India. We will see Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Monument to the Discoveries.
To regain some energy, we will stop for a local expresso (bica) and a pastél de nata at the most famous local place that bakes this delicious pastry.
After some nice conversation, we will drive for about 30 minutes, heading West (to Cascais) and always by the Sea. You will see how the river Tagus gives way to the Atlantic Ocean. This coast (known as the Estoril Coast) has traditionally been home for the wealthy, including European royals. During World War II, Estoril was home to axis and US spies, royals, and many wealthy refugees seeking to reach the US. Casino Estoril is said to be the inspiration behind Casino Royal in Ian Flemming's 007 novels.
In Cascais, we will find our way to a local restaurant (and see the village) and sit down to enjoy some nice local cuisine (try the local seafood and wine!). In true Portuguese style, the lunch will be slow paced, so we can chat and appreciate the nice sea view.
After lunch, we will head even further West, eventually reaching Cabo da Roca, which is Europe's westernmost point, with impressive views of the coast and the surrounding mountains.
Now it is time to climb (by car, don't worry!) the magic mountain of Sintra. With it's micro-climate and history this is like stepping into another country. We'll stop in Quinta da Regaleira to visit one of the most emblematic sites of Sintra.
Finally, we will return to Lisbon, just in time for a nap and a shower before hitting the city for a nice dinner followed by (probably lots of...) drinks in Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real. Have a look at our listing of Lisbon gay bars and clubs.
