SINTRA & QUELUZ PALACES GAY TOUR
Discovering the History of Portugal in a visit to Royal Palaces.
Reasons to Join our Lisbon West Coast Gay Tour:
After we pick you up at your hotel (book online as early as possible!), we will begin our day at Queluz National Palace. This is informally known as the "Portuguese Versailles". Built as a Summer residence for the Royal Family on the 18th century, the Queluz Palace will tell you the story of the last dynasty that ruled Portugal: the Bragança dynasty.
We will then get back on the road and head further West of Lisbon until we reach the magic village of Sintra. Due to this it's unique microclimate and the beauty of it's mountain, Sintra has for centuries attracted royals and nobles, who built many Palaces in the village.
To regain some energy, we will stop for a local expresso (bica) and a small snack (we recommend trying the "queijada" - a typical pastry from Sintra) at the one of the small coffeeshops in the historic area of the village.
We will visit the Sintra National Palace, dating back to the birth of Portugal on the 12th century. You will be able to see the journey that led Portugal from fighting back against Moorish occupation up to the Age of the Discoveries.
We will then find our way to a local restaurant (and see the village) and sit down to enjoy some nice local cuisine (try the local dishes and wine!). In true Portuguese style, the lunch will be slow paced, so we can chat and appreciate the moment.
After lunch, we will head up to the top of the Sintra mountain so we can visit a masterpiece of the 19th century Romantism, the UNESCO world heritage site of Pena National Palace. Built with a mix of architectural styles, the impressive Pena Palace resembles a Bavarian castle and it's exploration will keep us busy during the afternoon.
Finally, we will return to Lisbon, just in time for a nap and a shower before hitting the city for a nice dinner followed by (probably lots of...) drinks in Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real. Have a look at our listing of Lisbon gay bars and clubs.
